Lausanne Tunnel

The Lausanne Tunnel is the largest point source of abandoned mine drainage metals pollution to the Lehigh River watershed. In 2014 a Hulpits grant was provided that enabled installation of a 3rd 14" x 30' feeder pipe to the wetland as well as instrumentation to record the wetland flow. We are now treating an additional near 1000gal/min of mine drainage in the wetland AMD passive treatment system.

The two graphs depict both the wetland flow, which is now at design rates, and the wetland bypass flow. With this data we will continue to collaborate with others in the study of flow profiles to further optimize performance of the system and reduction of metals to the watershed.
